Discover the Oude- of Martinikerk
The Oude- of Martinikerk has a unique history. Around 1200, an aisleless church was built next to the home of the feudal lord Dirk van Voorburgh. There may have been a wooden church on the site before, but that has never been proven.
The church was dedicated to St. Martin and in 1275 it became a ‘parish of Saint Martin’. Around 1460, the tower was built with a twenty-metre spire. Today, the medieval church is still largely intact!
In the church, history lovers can admire the artistic gravestones of residents from previous generations. This way, the history of the region really comes to life. The church is also a lovely place for peaceful reflection.
